What’s the Plan? A Webinar Series (March 11-25, 2015)
Long-awaited Public Comment Period Opens
It’s been 21 years since the EPA considered the rules that govern Oil Spill Response. In that time, our technologies have advanced significantly, while the rules surrounding them remained unchanged. Dangerous dispersants, unconventional oil and gas, and risky transportaion methods have created perilous, sometimes deadly, situations.
NOW IS OUR OPPORTUNITY TO ACT!
The EPA has proposed new rules for the National Contingency Plan for Oil Spills, and has opened their public comment period. We encourage you to get informed and make public comments on the critical issues facing us today. The ALERT Project is offering three webinars to help the public understand the proposed rules and the items the EPA left out. Please join Riki Ott, PhD for the following webinars:
What’s the Plan? Oil Disasters in Your Backyard
Wednesday, March 11 – 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time
An online discussion with RIki about the National Contingency Plan, Area Contingency Plans, and the use of “clean-up” agents – prohibited chemicals, exemptions that allow their use, notification requirements, clean-up of the “clean-up” agents and more. 30 minute presentation, 60 minute Q/A. What’s the Plan? A Clean Clean-up
Wednesday, March 18 – 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Did you know that the dispersants used to “clean up” the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster constitute the sixth largest petroleum spill in U.S. history? Leaving another disaster behind is no way to handle a disaster.
Join Riki Ott, PhD, of The ALERT Project Wednesday, March 18th for an online discussion on the use of dispersants, other clean-up agents, and needed requirements for their use – if at all.

What’s the Plan? Closing The Loopholes And Ending The Word Games
Wednesday, March 25 – 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time
If you sink oil, you sink oil. If you make it harder to remove, you make it harder to remove. It doesn’t matter whether or not the oil hits the bottom of the ocean “deliberately.”
Join Riki Ott, PhD, of The ALERT Project Wednesday, March 25th for an online discussion on the categorization of “clean-up” agents used in oil spills, misleading definitions, and what needs to be done to close the loopholes and stop the word games around oil spill response and recovery. 30 minute presentation, 60 minute Q/A.
